Summary of Case:	"Nick Cooper, Nina Carter-Brown, Angela Ditchfield, Joanna Frew, and Alison Parker were codefendants wrongly convicted in January 2017 of wilful obstruction of a highway. Their prosecutions were based on them staging a demonstration outside the Atomic Weapons Establishment (AWE) plant in Burghfield, Berkshire, England on June 27, 2016. After their arrests they were released on bond. District Judge Shomon Khan rejected their defense that they were acting in accordance with their religious beliefs and "following Jesus' example of non-violence" by staging the protest and their conviction would be a breach of Articles 9, 10 and 11 of the Human Rights Act, which allows people to practise their religion. After finding the five codefendants guilty, Judge Khan sentenced each to conditional discharge of six months with costs of £100 and a surcharge of £20. They appealed. On July 31, 2017 Lord Justice Burnett and Sir Wyn Williams of the High Court quashed the convictions of all five and acquitted them on the basis the prosecution introduced no evidence that they obstructed a highway, and in fact they held their protest on a private road."
