Summary of Case: |
"After the FBI investigated the case of Jeffrey David Cox and the US Attorney's Office charged another man with the murder Cox was convicted of, he was released after a hearing during which the State's Attorney stated: "We have reliable and compelling evidence that it was not Mr. Cox. An innocent man spent 11 years in jail." Jeffrey Cox was convicted by a jury in 1991 of first-degree murder, kidnapping, and breaking and entering in the death of a woman in Richmond, Virginia in August 1990 based on a eyewitnesses identification of him. He was sentenced to life imprisonment plus 50 years. In 2002 The State of Virginia awarded Cox compensation of $750,000 in 2002." |
