Summary of Case: |
"Curtis Crosland aka Curtis Croslend was wrongly convicted in 1991 of a murder committed in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1984. Crosland's prosecution was based on two eyewitnesses who identified him as the culprit. The witnesses received leniency in their own criminal cases after providing evidence against Crosland. There was no physical or forensic evidence linking Crosland to the crime. An investigation by the Philadelphia DA's Conviction Integrity Unit discovered documents casting doubt on the credibility of the prosecution's two witnesses. On June 22, 2021 Crosland's federal writ of habeas corpus was granted by U.S. District Court Judge Anita B. Brody on the basis the prosecution violated his Brady right by failing to turn over documents casting doubt on the credibility of the witnesses, and information the police had pointing to another credible suspect for the murder. Crosland was released on June 24, 2021 when the DA's motion to dismiss the charges was granted." |
