Summary of Case:

"Ildar Dadin was wrongly convicted in December 2015 of participating in more than one unsanctioned protest in a 180-day period. Dadin was the first person convicted under the law that made illegal protesting a felony. After his conviction Dadin was sentenced to 2 years and 6 months in prison. On February 10, 2017 Russia's Constitutional Court upheld the law Dadin had been convicted of violating, but ruled that application of the law should be determined by "the real scal of public danger" presented by a defendant's actions. On February 22, 2017 Russia's Supreme Court vacated Dadin's conviction on the basis of the prosecutions admission that based on the Constitutional Court's Feb. 10 ruling, there was a lack of evidence he had committed his convicted crime. His case was ordered closed, and he was ordered released by the prison upon its receipt of the Supreme Court's order."
