Summary of Case:

"Wilton Dedge was wrongly convicted in 1982 of raping a 17 year old girl twice. Convicted again after a retrial. Released August 12, 2004 after DNA tests of remaining physical evidence excluded Wilton Dodge as the attacker. The tests were preformed under authority of a 2001 state law that allowed DNA testing in cases already "closed." Wilton Dodge served 22 years of wrongful imprisonment. Being excluded by the DNA evidence was consistent with the fact that Dodge did not match the description of the girls' attacker, she said he was 6' tall and weighed 160-180 pounds, while Dodge was 5'-6" and weighed 125 pounds. Dedge was awarded $2 million by the Florida Legislature in 2005."
