Summary of Case:

"Fifteen defendants were convicted based on unreliable evidence by Richmond Police Department Detective Jason Norton. An investigation into irregularities in search warrant affidavits based on alleged information provided by alleged confidential informants and other suspicious conduct by Det. Norton from 2008 to 2012. The investigation discovered that Norton's fraudulent evidence may have been relied on to obtain more than 100 convictions. As of April 2, 2016 nine convictions in state court based on unreliable evidence by Det. Norton had been overturned at the request of Richmond Commonwealth Attorney Michael Herring. In addition, three convictions in federal court based on unreliable evidence by Det. Norton were overturned on April 1, 2015 at the request of the U.S. Attorney's Office. Norton was hired as a recruit on April 5, 2004, and left the department as a police officer on July 1, 2013."
