Summary of Case:

"Walter Derrico was wrongly convicted of a drug charge in Cuyahoga County, Ohio based on evidence provided by corrupt East Cleveland, Ohio police officers who planted evidence, obtained search warrants with false statements, and stole money from people they arrested. The three officers, Sgt. Torris Moore and detectives Antonio Malone and Eric Jones, each pled guilty to federal corruption-related crimes in 2015. Moore was ringleader of the scheme, and he was sentenced to nine years in federal prison. In December 2016 the Cuyahoga County District Attorney filed a motion to dismiss the cases of 40 defendants whose convictions were based on tainted evidence by the corrupt officers. As of April 2017, 43 defendants whose convictions were based on evidence provided by the three corrupt East Cleveland Police Officers had been exonerated. On April 22, 2017 Derrico filed a federal civil rights lawsuit that asserted violations of his civil rights, conspiracy, terrorism, and treason by the defendants, who were named as: Officers Moore, Malone, Jones, the city of East Cleveland, and the State of Ohio."
