Summary of Case:

"Alejandro Dominguez was exonerated of a 1989 rape by DNA testing in 2002, eight years after being paroled from prison in 1994. Dominguez was inspired to hire lawyers and pay for the DNA testing to prove his innocence when the INS threatened to deport him based on his wrongful conviction. In August 2005, Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich pardoned Dominguez on the basis of his innocence. In October 2006 a jury awarded Dominguez $9 million in his federal civil rights lawsuit against the City of Waukegan, Illinois and several of its police officers who "pushed" the rape victim to select him as her assailant."
