"Alfred Dreyfus was wrongly convicted of treason based on a forged document and imprisoned at Devil's Island in French Guyana. Emile Zola was wrongly convicted of defamation for defending Dreyfus, and self-exiled to England, Emile Zola's J'Accuse' helped inflame public passion against the injustice of Dreyfus' wrongful conviction that won a reversal of his conviction and his release from prison. Dreyfus was pardoned and released in 1899, and he was exonerated in 1906."
