Summary of Case:

"Michel Dumont was wrongly convicted of rape in 1994 based on false identification by victim. While imprisoned he met Solange Tremblay, who began to dig for proof of his innocence. She discovered that six months after his conviction the victim recanted her ID, but the prosecution didn't notify Dumont's lawyer - even though his appeal was pending at the time. Dumont was released from prison in 1997 after three years of wrongful imprisonment, and his conviction was quashed in 2001 by the Quebec Court of Appeal. After Dumont's release, he and Solange married. While imprisoned Dumont's two children were sexually abused in a foster home. In May 2004 Dumont announced that he and his family is seeking $8.7 million for wrongdoing by the police and prosecutors, his mistreatment in prison, and the abuse of his son and daughter while under custody of the state. On July 20, 2009 a judge in Montreal ruled against Dumont's claims and dismissed his lawsuit."
