"Narayan Dutt and Prem Kumar were codefendants wrongly convicted on March 28, 2005 of murder in the death of a man attacked by seven men as he was coming out of the courthouse in India's Punjab state on March 3, 2001. Kumar and Dutt were present, but the evidence was they had no weapons and did not participate in the murder. After Dutt and Kumar were convicted by the sessions court and sentenced to life in prison, they appealed. On March 11, 2008 the High Court quashed the convictions of Dutt and Kumar and ordered their acquittals."
