Summary of Case:

"Yvonne Eldridge was wrongly convicted by a jury on June 3, 1996 after a four week trial of two counts of abusing two babies she cared for in 1991. She was sentenced on July 10, 1996 to 3 years and 4 months in prison. She was allowed to remain free on a $100,000 property bond until August 1996 to get her affairs in order before reporting to prison. She hired new lawyers who on filed a motion for a new trial based on the ineffective assistance of her trial counsel for failing to call key witnesses to testify at Eldridge's trial. Eldridge was allowed to remain free on her bond pending the outcome of her motion. On January 16, 1998 her motion was granted and the prosecution appealed to the California Court of Appeals. After five years of appeals and hearings, the Eldridge's indictment was dismissed on January 8, 2003 with the agreement of the prosecution after the Court of Appeals upheld judge's second ruling on December 21, 2000 that Eldridge was provided with constitutionally ineffective assistance of counsel."
