Summary of Case:

"Ferdoos Eltoum was wrongly convicted in July 2015 of public indency for the clothes she wore to court for her trial on a charge of public indency for what she was wearing when she exited the El Izba Baptist Church in Khartoum with eleven other women in June 2015. All twelve women are Christians, and they were all charged with public indency for their clothing. The judge sentenced to pay a fine of 500 Sudanese Pounds (£54) and punishment of 20 lashes, which was suspended. In September 2015 Eltoum's conviction was overturned on appeal on the basis the trial judge had no legal authority to summarily convict her for a crime she had not been charged with committing. "
