"Arthur Emery was wrongly convicted in 1953 of robbing a bus driver in Seattle, Washington of $105 in December 1952. During his trial the only evidence was his identification by the bus driver that he was the robber. He was sentenced to 5 years to life in prison. Shortly after Emery had begun serving his sentence Eugene Albert Gough confessed to the crime and told police where he had hid the bus driver's money changer. Emery was pardoned by Washington Governor Arthur Langlie in January 1954 and released after 9 months imprisonment. Emery was awarded $13,000 in compensation by the Washington State Legislature."
