Summary of Case:

"Mohammed Erraji was wrongly convicted on September 5, 2008 of "failing to show respect for the king." Mohammed Erraji was a contributor to HesPress, a Moroccan daily news ?Web site. On September 3, 2008 an article he wrote was published on HesPress that criticized Morocco's King Mohamed VI for ?rewarding people who praise him.? Erraji was was arrested the next day and without being provided a defense lawyer he was convicted the day and immediately sentenced to two years in prison and MAD 5,000 (USD $625). Bloggers and journalist organizations around the world immediately came to Erraji's defense. On Septemer 11, 2008 Morocco's Court of Appeal released him on bail pending the outcome of his appeal. On September 18, 2008 the Court of Appeal quashed Erraji's conviction and ordered is immediate release."
