Summary of Case:	"Sixty-three defendants were acquitted by Turkey's Supreme Court of Appeals on Oct. 9, 2013 in the Balyoz case on the grounds that they had agreed to commit a crime but had not followed through and actually committed an infraction. The Balyoz case involved more than 300 military officers convicted of charges related to attempting to engineer a military coup against the government in Turkey in 2003. The case was also known as Operation Sledgehammer. The defendants received sentences ranging from 6 years in prison to 20 years in prison. The Supreme Court of Appeals upheld the convictions of 237 defendants."
