Summary of Case:	"Sean Farrell was wronly convicted in December 2012 in Dublin, Northern Ireland of membership in the IRA. Farrell's conviction by the Special Criminal Court was based on the testimony of Garda Chief Superintendent Diarmuid O’Sullivan, who provided evidence that wasn't provided to Farrell's lawyer prior to his trial. During Farrell's trial O'Sullivan provided hearsay testimony he had confidential information Farrell was involved in a “litany of incidents … as an active member of the IRA over the last number of years.” After his conviction Farrell was sentenced to 5 years imprisonment. On April 10, 2014 the Northern Ireland Court of Criminal Appeal quashed Sean Farrell's conviction for IRA membership as being based on unreliable evidence by O'Sullivan, and declined the DPP's request for his retrial. Farrell was released after 16 months in custody."
