Summary of Case: |
"Abigail Faulkner was wrongly convicted of witchcraft in Salem, MA during what is now known as the Salem Witch Trials. After Abigail Faulkner was convicted of witchcraft and sentenced to death she petitioned Massachusetts Governor Phips for clemency pleading that her husband was an invalid, she was pregnant, and her children had no caretaker with "little or nothing to subsist on." Governor Phips granted her a pardon and she was released in December 1692. Still convicted of witchcraft, on October 17, 1711 she was exonerated when her Bill of Attainder was reversed by the Massachusetts legislature. Her father was Rev. Francis Dane and her mother's maiden name was Elizabeth Ingalls." |
