Summary of Case:

"Jack Graves Favor, aka Cadillac Jack Favor, was wrongly convicted in 1967 of a double murder committed near Haughton, Louisiana on April 17, 1964. Favor's prosecution was based on the testimony of the prosecution's star witness, who was the actual murderer. After his conviction by a jury Jack Favor was sentenced to life in prison. With the aid of a jailhouse lawyer he filed a writ of habeas corpus that was denied by the Louisiana state courts, but granted by a federal judge. Favor was acquitted after his retrial in 1974 and he was released after seven years wrongful imprisonment. Favor filed a false imprisonment lawsuit against the State of Louisiana, which was settled for $55,000 in compensation. Jack Favor had been a rodeo star. While imprisoned Favor participated in the first Angola Rodeo opened to the public in 1967, and the rodeo became the largest annual prison rodeo in the United States. Favor was inductd into the Cowboy Hall of Fame in 1978, on October 25, 2009, he was posthumously inducted into the Texas Trail of Fame. Favor's record of throwing a steer in 2.2 seconds at a rodeo in Houston, Texas remains unbeaten, but it has been tied."
