"Vincent M. Ferrera was wrongly convicted in 1992 and sentenced to 22 years in prison after pleading guilty to racketeering, gambling, extortion and ordering a murder in order to avoid a life sentence. The key witness against Vincent Ferrera recanted his allegations against Ferrera prior to his plea, but the federal prosecutors did not tell Ferrera's attorneys. In 2002 the witness came forward to reveal that the prosecutors and federal investigators coerced him into going along with his allegations. Ferrera's murder conviction was overturned and he was released in 2005 after 13 years of wrongful imprisonment."
