Summary of Case:

"Paul Anthony Finlay was wrongly convicted in February 2002 of manslaughter in the death of a 41-year-old Jasmine Grosvenor in April 2001.Grosvenor injected heroin that Finlay had prepared, loaded into a syringe and handed to the woman. His direct appeal was denied in 2003. In October 2007 the House of Lords quashed a man's manslaughter conviction for preparing heroin taken by a person who then died from an overdose. After that ruling Finlay submitted an application to England's Criminal Cases Review Commission, which referred it to the Court of Appeals. Finlay died in May 2008, and his sister continued with his appeal. On July 1, 2009 the Court of Appeals posthumously overturned Finlay's conviction. Lord Judge stated, "It is plain that Mr Finlay’s conviction, and the dismissal of his appeal against his conviction (in 2003), were wrong. The conviction should be treated as unsafe.""
