Summary of Case:

"Glenn Ford was wrongly convicted in December 1984 of first-degree murder in Shreveport, Caddo Parish, Lousiana. Ford was sentenced to death. On March 10, 2014 a judge granted a motion by the prosecutors office to vacate Ford's conviction and dismiss his charges based on "credible evidence" of his innocence. In March 2015 Ford filed a federal civil rights lawsuit that named as defendants former and current Caddo Parish prosecutors, the city of Shreveport and several named and unnamed police department members, and the city's former coroner. Ford spent almost 30 years in Angola State Prison on death row. Ford was denied compensation by the State of Louisiana in March 2015 on the basis he had unclean hands concerning the crime because he knew the crime was going to happen, he destroyed evidence, and he tried to sell the murder weapon. Ford died from lung cancer at the age of 65 on June 29, 2015. Glenn Ford's estate pursued the compensation claim, and on April 13, 2016 the Louisiana Second Circuit Court of Appeal affirmed the lower court's ruling that Ford was not entitled to compensation for wrongful conviction because "Ford failed to prove by clear and convincing evidence that he did not commit any crime based upon the facts used in his conviction." On October 10, 2016 the Lousiana Supreme Court declined to hear the case. Ford's federal civil rights lawsuit was pending as of October 2016."
