Summary of Case:

"Johnny Frederick was codefendant of David Roby Keaton. Both men were convicted on May 6, 1971 of first-degree murder in the shooting death of an off-duty deputy sheriff during a robbery in Leon County, Florida on September 18, 1970. The men were convicted based on confessions extracted by the police after three days of interrogations, and which they later retracted as coerced, and their identification by five eyewitness. On May 11, 1971 Keaton was sentenced to death in the electric chair, while Frederick was sentenced to life in prison. On February 21, 1973 Keaton's conviction was reversed by the Florida Supreme Court based on newly discovered evidence that three men known as `the Jacksonville Three' actually committed the crime. The charges were dismissed against David Keaton and Frederick and they were released at the same time in 1973 based on the new evidence identifying the actual perpetrators."
