William Freeburn was wrongly convicted on 9/10/2002 of a attempted theft. Freeburn submitted an application to Scotland's Criminal Case Review Commission (SCCRC) for review of his conviction as a miscarriage of justice. Freeburn's case was referred by the SCCRC on 9/13/2005 to Scotland's Court of Appeal. On 11/17/2005 the appeals court quashed William Freeburn's convictions.
