"Kevin Geddings was wrongly convicted by a jury in 2007 of five counts of violating the federal honest services law. A former North Carolina lottery commissioner, Geddings was sentenced to four years in federal prison and he began serving his sentence in July 2007. In May 2008 the federal 4th Circuit Court of Appeals affirmed Geddings' convictions. Gedding was released in June 29, 2010 after the U.S. Supreme Court overturned part of the honest services law and federal prosecutors agreed he should be released after serving 3 years in prison -- and his scheduled release date was in December 2010. Geddings filed a motion to vacate his conviction that was granted by a federal judge on August 27, 2010 who also ordered return of the $25,000 fine he had paid.."
