Summary of Case:

"Alan Gell was wongly convicted of a 1995 murder and sentenced to death because the prosecution concealed witness statements of 17 people who saw the victim alive days after the only day Alan Gell could have committed the murder. A Bertie County, NC Superior Court Judge vacated Alan Gell's conviction in December 2002, and ordered a retrial, and he was released from death row after spending 4-1/2 years under sentence of death. Gell was acquitted after a retrial on Feb. 18, 2004. Gell spent 9 years wrongly imprisoned, since he spent 3 years jailed prior to his 1998 trial."
