Summary of Case:

"Donald Glassman was wrongly convicted in October 2007 of misdemeanor third-degree sexual abuse of his then-wife in 2006 in New York County, New York. The sole evidence against Glassman was the testimony of his wife. Glassman filed a pre-sentence motion for a new trial based on the refusal of his lawyer, Howard L. Blau, to allow him to testify. Glassman's conviction was overturned and he was granted a new trial. Glassman was acquitted after a retrial on February 11, 2009. Glassman sued Blau for malpractice, and in 2010 was awarded nearly $500,000. Blau pled guilty in 2012 to stealing money from clients, and as of November 2019 Glassman has received no money from that award. Glassman also sued the lawyer he hired to file the motion for a new trial -- Robert J. Feldman -- for malpractice and breach of contract. Among his claims, Glassman argued Feldman should have declined to represent him because he was a material witness against Blau's representation of Glassman, since Glassman had called him in a panic after Blau refused to allow him to testify. After a ten-day trial with Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Louis Nock presiding, in November 2019 a 6-person jury awarded Glassman $10,000 for breach of contract, $20,000 for malpractice and $250,000 in punitive damages. Glassman went to law school and was admitted to practice law in New York in 2015."
