Summary of Case:

"Eric Glisson and codefendant Cathy Watkins were wrongly convicted in 1997 of the 1995 murder in the Bronx, New York of cab driver Baithe Diop on January 19, 1995. An eyewitness who looked out her window 100 yards from the crime scene identfied six people as involved in the crime, and they became known as the "The Bronx Six." After their conviction by a jury Glisson and Watkins were sentenced to 25 years to life in prison. In 2012 Glisson obtained the new evidence of cell phone records that showed Diop's cell phone was used to call two gang members, and that the Bronx County DA had known that evidence prior to Glisson's trial, but had not disclosed it to their attornies. Glisson and Watkins filed motions for a new trial based on the new evidence, which were granted on October 22, 2012, and they were released. The charges were subsequently dismissed. Glisson, Watkins, and the other three convicted of the murder, Devon Ayers, Michael Cosme and Carlos Perez filed federal civil rights lawsuits that named the City of New York, the NYPD, and two officers involved in the prosecutions for violating their civil rights. On April 21, 2016 the New York City Law Department notified U. S. District Court Judge Jesse M. Furman that it had completed settlements of $8 million each with Ayers, Cosme and Perez, and that it had agreements in principle to settle the cases of Glisson and Watkins for $8 million each. Eric Glisson was awarded $3.89 million in 2015 by the New York State Court of Claims under the state's unjust imprisonment act."
