Belize's Court of Appeal quashed Gomez's convictions and ordered his acquittal on October 4, 2010, based on the fact that his face was broadcast on television before the victim identified him. That made her identification of Gomez unreliable, and it prevented him from getting a fair trial, and barred his retrial."
