Summary of Case: |
"Trevor Gray was wrongly convicted in May 2012 of raping a 43-year-old mother in Nottingham, England after they went back to her house after a date on July 23, 2011. Gray was dismissed from his job for 25 years as a Nottingham police detective after his conviction. During Gray's trial the prosecution's case was based on the woman's allegation he raped her, while he testified in his defense that they had consensual sex, and he claimed the police investigation was flawed. They had returned from the date to the woman's house in a taxi. Gray raised in his appeal the new evidence of a taxi driver, and his conviction was quashed as unsafe by England's Court of Appeal on July 2, 2013 after a two-hour hearing. Gray was released on bail pending his retrial after 13 months in custody. On February 6, 2014 a jury of 9 men and 3 women unanimously acquitted Gray after a four-day retrial." |
