Summary of Case: |
"Aake Green was a pastor wrongly convicted of a hate crime for branding homosexuals a "cancer." The Goeta Appeals Court vacated Aake Green's conviction on Feb. 11, 2005, ruling that "The purpose of making agitation against gays punishable is not to prevent arguments or discussions about homosexuality, not in churches or in other parts of society." The Court ruled that while Green's views may be offensive to some, it is not illegal to tell others of one's personal views of the Bible's teachings and express and urge others to adopt them. Green was the first clergyman convicted under Sweden's hate crime law that makes inflammatory remarks against certain groups a crime." |
