"Anthony Michael Green was wrongly convicted in 1988 of robbery and rape based on the erroneous eyewitness testimony of the victim, a nurse in her 30s who died of natural causes shortly after identifying Anthony Green, who goes by his middle name of Michael, as her attacker. Green was released from prison on October 9, 2001 after being excluded as the assailant by DNA testing. Green was wrongly imprisoned for 13 years. Rodney Rhines' confessed to the rape that Michael Green had been convicted of committing. Green settled his federal civil rights lawsuit against the City of Cleveland for $1.6 million in June 2004. On November 12, 2002 Anthony Green filed a complaint seeking compensation with the Ohio Court of Claims. On November 17, 2003 the Ohio Court of Claims entered an order approving Green's settlement with the State of Ohio that awarded him total compensation of $567,488.55 (lump sum of $267,488.55 and $1,000 a month for 25 years), and payment of attorneys fees and costs of $87,500 to his attorney Alphonse Gerhardstein." |
