Summary of Case:	"Edward Green was wrongly convicted in 1990 of the rape of a women in Washington D.C. on July 3, 1987. His prosecution and conviction by the jury was based on the woman's testimony that Green was her assailant, and his blood type matched that of her assailant. The jury acquitted Green of a second incident that involved the rape of a woman on August 5, 1987 (that prosecution was also based on the victim's ID). Prior to Green's sentencing DNA testing was conducted of fluids on the woman's clothing, and Green was excluded as the source. The judge granted a continuance of sentencing to allow time for more extensive testing. Cellmark Diagnotics laboratory tested semen recovered from the victim's clothes and in February 1990 reported that Green's DNA was excluded as the source. The defense filed a motion for a new trial based on the new exculpatory evidence that was granted on March 19, 1990 by a District of Columbia Superior Court judge. The U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Columbia filed a motion to dismiss Green's indictment, which was granted, and Green was released."
