Summary of Case:

"Jed Allen Greesman was a co-defendant of Troy Jon Hancock. Both men were wrongly convicted in 1993 of raping a 20-year-old woman on the Labor Day weekend in 1991 in Juab, Utah, based on the identification of the victim. Friends of the two men raised money to pay for a reinvestigation that discovered the young woman had falsely accused a man of rape two years earlier in Provo, Utah, and that members of her family had been seen looking at Hancock's truck before she changed her description of the vehicle her alleged assailant's were driving. In addition DNA testing of the semen sample recovered from the woman excluded the DNA profile of both Troy Hancock and Jed Gressman. Based on the new evidence the men were granted a new trial and the Juab County DA's motion to dismiss the charges was granted. After serving 41 months of their sentences Hancock and Gressman were released on June 12, 1996. Gressman died in a fire at the age of 41, and his estate was posthumously awarded $220,000 in compensation in 2011. Hancock was also awarded compensation. They were the first persons awarded compensation under Utah's wrongful conviction compensation statute that went into effect in 2008."
