Summary of Case:

"E. B. H. was wrongly convicted in June 2018 of assault occasioning bodily harm in Longreach, Queensland, Australia. H.'s prosecution was based on him smacking his 17 month old son on the thigh in April 2018 after he had gotten home from his job as a baker. The slap left a bruise that police photographed two days later. H.'s lawyer prevailed on him to plead guilty in the Longreach Magistrates Court. The 21 year old H. was sentenced by a female judge to 12 months in prison. H. appealed. On July 15, 2019 E. B. H.'s conviction and sentence was set aside by Queensland District Court Judge Ian Dearden. Dearden substituted a fine of $250."
