"Frau Hamm was wrongly convicted in 1909 for complicity in the murder of her husband in Flandersbach, Rhineland, Germany. She was sentenced to 14 years in prison. Frau Hamm had been imprisoned for 4-1-2 years when she was released on February 26, 1914 after two farmhands suspected of being the actual murderers were arrested. A reinvestigation of her case discovered that her conviction was the result of a zealous detective who was believed to have set himself the task of ensuring her conviction at all costs."
