Summary of Case:

"Ricky Hammond was convicted sexual assault and kidnapping by a jury although DNA tests prior to his trial excluded him as the rapist, because an eyewitness he had never met erroneously identified him as the attacker, and based on info the police had provided her with she accurately described his car and its contents. A police lab analyst also wrongly inferred that hair samples of the attacker matched Hammond. On February 25, 1992 the Connecticut Supreme Court vacated Hammond's conviction in ruling the trial judge erred in denying Hammond's post-verdict motion for a new trial. Hammond was acquitted in 1992 after a retrial when the jury heard testimony about additional DNA tests that excluded him."
