Summary of Case:

"Law Professor Tey Tsun Hang was wrongly convicted in June 2013 of six counts of public corruption for "exploiting" one of his students between May and July 2010 by obtaining sexual favors and gifts from her in exchange for better grades. Hang was a professor at the National University of Singapore (NUS) law school and he was a former district court judge. During his trial during which Hang acted as his own attorney, his former student Darinne Ko Wen Hui provided the key prosecution evidence. Hang's defense is that they were involved in a romantic relationship that went sour. The prosecution argued Hang exploited his position as a professor making $225,000 yearly with his 21-year-old student. After Hang was convicted he was sentenced to five months in prison. The University fired Hang upon his conviction. Hang served his sentence while his appeal was pending. After being jailed for 3 months Hang was released in September 2013 and allowed to finish his sentence on home confinement. In October 2013 Hang was released from custody after four months for his good behavior. On February 28, 2014 Singapore's High Court acquitted Hang. Speaking for the Court, Justice Woo Bih Li stated that it takes two hands to clap, and that Darinne Ko was in love with Hang at the time, and that she was not trying to get better grades in return for having sex with him and showering him with gifts."
