Summary of Case:	"Lorraine Harris was wrongly convicted of manslaughter in the death of her four-month-old son in December 1998, based on erroneous medical testimony that the cause of her infant child's death was "shaken baby syndrome." She was sentenced to three years imprisonment. After Lorraine Harris completed her sentence, in July 2005 her conviction was quashed by UK's Court of Appeal based on new scientific evidence that her child died of natural causes. In July 2008 she was denied compensation by the British government for her three years of wrongful imprisonment, based on the compensation laws requirement that to qualify for a payment, an exoneration must be based on a "new fact," while Harris' exoneration was based on new medical opinion."
