Summary of Case:

"Suezanne Hayman was wrongly convicted in 1986 for allegedly conspiring to import heroin from Thailand in 1984. She was convicted on the basis of her alleged confession - which was unsigned. She served 3-1/2 years in prison before her release in 1991. In 1992, she was deported to her homeland of New Zealand with 24-hours notice. In 1995 a detective admitted to the Wood Royal Commission that Hayman's confession was "straight fiction" made-up he said, after the police had "made up out mind." to charge her -- but they had no actual evidence. Hayman's conviction was quashed in 1998. She filed a civil suit and was awarded an undisclosed sum. In December 2005 the Australian government lifted Hayman's ban on traveling to Australia -- 19 years after her wrongful conviction."
