Summary of Case:	"Dale Helmig was wrongly convicted in 1996 of murdering his mother in 1993. Conviction overturned by a federal judge in September 2005 based on the jurors reliance on a map not in evidence that erroneously indicated that Helmig could have been present at the crime scene, and not 54 miles away where he was registered at a motel because flood waters blocked his return home. However, the federal appeals court reinstated Helmig's conviction. On November 3, 2010, a DeKalb County Superior Court judge overturned Helmig's conviction ruling he had "established his innocence by clear and convincing evidence." The judge called Helmig's 1996 conviction of killing his mother in central Missouri's Osage County, a "victim of manifest injustice." On March 29, 2011 the Missouri Court of Appeals affirmed the judge's ruling and ordered that Helmig either be released or retried within 180 days."
