"Steven Heretakis was wrongly convicted in September 2013 of negligent driving causing death when he hit his uncle with his car in Sydney, Australia on July 24, 2013. Heretakis' defense was he accidentally pressed the gas pedal instead of the brake when he looked up and was startled to see his uncle directly in front of his van. Heretakis was sentenced to an 18 month suspended prison sentence dependant on his good behavior, and 12 months driving disqualification. Heretakis appealed. On June 3, 2014 the Downing Centre District Court Judge Peter Berman quashed Heretakis' conviction." |
