Summary of Case:	"Perquondis Holmes was wrongly convicted in March 2015 of the November 2013 shooting murder of 18-year-old Dae'Quan Campbell in Waterloo, Iowa. Holmes filed pre-trial motions that were granted, barring gang evidence from the trial. During Holmes' trial his lawyer didn't object to the introduction of Facebook photos showing Holmes using gang signs. After his conviction by a jury, Holmes lawyer filed a post-verdict motion for a new trial based on the prejudicial introduction by the prosecution of Facebook photos showing Holmes using gang signs -- which his lawyer didn't object to the introduction of. On February 15, 2016 District Court Judge David Staudt granted Holmes motion for a new trial. Judge Staudt stated in his ruling: "The question is did Mr. Holmes receive a fair trial? I think that everybody would agree that the pictures, at least exhibits A and B, show individuals shooting gang signs. ... the fact that it may have [had an impact on the jury] is enough for me to say that he should get a new trial. On August 25, 2016 Holmes was acquitted by a jury after his retrial. Prior to his trial Holmes pled guilty to a flight to avoid prosecution charge, based on him fleeing to Nebraska after the shooting."
