Summary of Case:	"Troy D. Hopkins was wrongly convicted in December 1990 of a July 1990 murder in Richmond, Virginia. In 1994 Hopkins conviction was reversed based on the 1992 confession of another man to the murder. However the decision was reversed by a higher court and Hopkins remained imprisned until 2001, when he was paroled. In August 2005, Virginia Governor Mark Warner pardoned Hopkins, saying, "I am convinced that Mr. Hopkins is innocent of the charges for which he was convicted." Hopkins was wrongly imprisoned for almost 11 years. Awarded $229,419 compensation by Virginia's legislature, which approved "An Act for the relief of Troy D. Hopkins" (SB 609) on March 31, 2006, which was subsequently signed by the governor on April 6, 2006. $15,750 of the money was earmarked for Hopkins' lawyers."
