Summary of Case:

"Deunte Humphries was wrongly convicted twice of drug charges in Richmond, Virginia based on evidence by Richmond Police Department Detective Jason Norton. After serving about three years in prison Humphries was released in 2015. It was discovered after his release that detective Norton fraudulent obtained the search warrant in Humphries case. On August 19, 2015 a motion by the Richmond Commonwealth's Attorney's Office to dismiss the charges against Humphries was granted. Circuit Judge William R. Marchant told Humphries, "“Apologies from all the system," and that it was “unfortunate” that Humphries already had served his sentence. Norton was hired as a recruit on April 5, 2004, and left the department as a police officer on July 1, 2013. Humphries was one of nine defendants wrongly convicted based on Norton's evidence."
