Summary of Case:

"Safiya Hussaini was wrongly convicted on October 12, 2001 of adultery and sentenced to death. Hussaini's defense was that she was raped by the man, but the Sharia court dismissed her testimony and convicted her based on her admission to having had sex outside of marriage was proof of adultery. She was sentenced to be stoned to death after she gave birth to her child. Hussaini was acquitted by an appeals court on March 25, 2002.
