Summary of Case:

"Convicted in 2002 of embezzelment and “tarnishing Egypt’s image.” Saad Eddin Ibrahim was sentenced to seven years in prison. Ibrahim was released on bond in December 2002 when his conviction was overturned and his retrial was ordered. On March 19, 2003, Egypt's highest court, the Court of Cassation, acquitted Ibrahim. He was imprisoned for 14 months. Ibrahim was first arrested in June 2000 and convicted, but his conviction was overturned on procedural grounds. He was then retried and reconvicted in 2002."
