Summary of Case:

"Illinois Governor J. B. Pritzker granted 11,017 pardons on December 31, 2019 to people who had been convicted of low-level marijuana (cannabis) convictions. Pritzker's pardons were granted one day before a new Illinois law was to go into effect on January 1, 2020 making cannabis legal in the state for people 21 and older. Illinois' new Cannabis Regulation and Tax Act took which took effect on January 1, allows people to automatically receive clemency for convictions up to 30 grams of cannabis. All of the pardoned people had been convicted of a marijuana related misdemeanor offense that is no longer a crime in Illinois. The pardons can make it easier for a person to get a job and housing."
