Summary of Case: |
"Anthony Jakes was wrongly convicted of a murder committed in 1991 in Chicago, Illinois. Jakes conviction was based on his confession to Chicago Police Department officers under the supervision of Chicago police Cmdr. Jon Burge. Jakes recanted his confession as false and coerced by his police interrogators. After his conviction by a jury Jakes was sentenced to 40 years in prison. Jakes was released on parole in 2013. Bouto filed a post-conviction motion for a new trial based on evidence that officers under Burge had coerced false confessions from suspects. The charges were dismissed against Anthony Jakes on April 30, 2018." |
