"Arshad Javed was wrongly convicted in February 1993 of blasphemy against the Koran. Javed was sentenced to death. Javed's prosecution was based on him trying to stop a procession to condemn Salman Rushdie's book "The Satanic Verses." Javed was acquitted on appeal after a higher court looked to medical evidence on the state of his mental health and found him to be insane."
